Vijnana Bhairava · Day 6
Day 6 — The Lightning-Like Ascent of Awareness
Awareness can be gathered inward and invited to rise gently through the central field of the body. The verse uses the image of lightning to suggest a subtle, luminous movement of attention toward stillness.

Plain English Rendering
“Let awareness rise inwardly like a subtle streak of light through the inner centers, then rest in the expansive stillness that opens above.”
Literal translations remain close to the source text. Plain English renderings are interpretive contemplative renderings for accessibility and reflection.
Meaning
The verse describes a lightning-like ascent through the inner centers. This image points to a quick, luminous movement of attention or pranic sensitivity, not to a dramatic external event.
The practice is a contemplative inward ascent. Awareness begins near the base of the body, rises gradually through the central line, and continues toward the crown and the space above.
The important point is not forceful energy manipulation. It is subtle attention becoming steady, refined, and open enough to rest in the stillness that follows.
The Practice
- 1Sit quietly.
- 2Let the breath remain natural.
- 3Bring awareness to the lower body or base.
- 4Sense the central line of the body from within.
- 5Slowly move awareness upward through the inner centers.
- 6Feel the ascent as a subtle current or streak of light.
- 7Continue toward the crown and the space just above.
- 8Rest in the expansive stillness that follows.
Practice for 5–10 minutes.
What to Notice
- attention becomes more gathered as it moves inward
- the ascent may feel subtle, quiet, or mostly imaginal
- the image of light can help attention become clear without strain
- stillness is more important than any unusual sensation
Common Misunderstandings
- Do not force energy upward.
- Do not add breath retention or pressure.
- Do not seek visions, powers, or dramatic experiences.
- Do not measure the practice by sensation intensity.
Reflection Prompt
“What remains when the sense of upward movement dissolves into open stillness?”
Connection to Inner Freedom
Inner freedom deepens when even subtle practices become supports for resting in awareness rather than new identities or achievements.
