Day 12The Subtle Space of the Central Channel

This dharana turns attention toward a very subtle inner space, imagined as fine and delicate like the fiber within a lotus stem.

Sanskrit

मध्यनाडी मध्यसंस्था बिससूत्राभरूपया ।ध्यातान्तर्व्योमया देव्या तया देवः प्रकाशते ॥

Transliteration

madhyanāḍī madhyasaṃsthā bisasūtrābharūpayādhyātāntarvyomayā devyā tayā devaḥ prakāśate

Literal Translation

One should meditate on the inner space of the central channel, situated in the middle, with a form like the fiber inside the stem of a lotus. Through that Goddess, the deity shines forth.

Plain English Rendering

Rest attention in the subtle inner space along the body's central line, fine and delicate like a lotus fiber. As attention becomes quiet there, luminous awareness reveals itself.

Literal translations remain close to the source text. Plain English renderings are interpretive contemplative renderings for accessibility and reflection.

Meaning

The verse uses the central channel as a contemplative support. The instruction is not anatomical analysis, but a subtle inward placement of attention along the body's middle.

The lotus-fiber image suggests delicacy, refinement, and quiet precision. Attention is invited to become fine rather than forceful.

The Goddess here can be understood as the living power of awareness in that subtle inner space. Through this inward attentiveness, the deity or luminous awareness becomes apparent.

The Practice

  1. 1Sit quietly.
  2. 2Let the breath remain natural.
  3. 3Sense the body's central line from within.
  4. 4Imagine or feel a very subtle inner space in the middle of the body.
  5. 5Let the image be fine and delicate, like a thread inside a lotus stem.
  6. 6Rest attention there without pressure.
  7. 7Allow the mind to become quiet and inward.
  8. 8Notice any sense of simple luminosity or clarity that appears.

Practice for 10 minutes.

What to Notice

  • attention becoming more refined
  • a subtle sense of inner space
  • less need to chase outer objects
  • quiet clarity emerging through stillness

Common Misunderstandings

  • Do not force a physical sensation in the spine.
  • Do not turn the central channel into rigid anatomy.
  • Do not strain to visualize perfectly.
  • The practice is delicate inward attention, not dramatic experience.

Reflection Prompt

Can attention become fine enough to rest in subtle inner space without grasping?

Connection to Inner Freedom

Inner freedom deepens as attention learns to rest in subtle inward clarity. The practice loosens dependence on outer objects and reveals awareness as quietly self-luminous.
